When collecting isn't fun anymore...

Ok, somber title.  I mean...it's not all that bad.  Maybe I should have named this post..."Flickr go away, you have no more power here!"

Sorry, I'm just a little salty because after purchasing my last (known) must have I'm sweating the fact I'm going to have to spend some bank on an articulate body for her.  Model of the moment Nichelle/Urban Hipster is just DOPE!  I absolutely love her and had to have her!  I tried to resist but she's one of the few things Mattel got right.  However, I'm bummed this girl can only hang on an FR body.  She can't even hang on an S.I.S. body. UGH!  Thanks, @#&* Mattel!

Now, I knew this going in but there's a part of me, the cheap part, that was kinda hoping she wouldn't look too bad on S.I.S. Chandra's body.  It was bad ya'll!  So, for the next month or two I will be in search of an FR Nadja or Annik/Quiet Storm.  Those two are the only matches for this girl. I do have a price limit but I'm not going to say right now because I'm too wishy washy, LOL.

Anyway, since this girl will put a hole in my wallet after her body is purchased, I had to scratch off some of my list guys.  In fact, I'm down to four list guys and only two list girls.  The good news is, my last two ladies are more character/celep dolls rather than model type dolls.  I've seen them at regular playline prices and they're not HTF.  Well, enough banter...let me go ahead and show you the goods....

Her fro is everything!  I so have a hair crush on this girl...

My hairspiration... :)

I tried her out anyway on an S.I.S. Chandra body even though I was already aware of the color difference, just wanted to see if it would bug me enough.  It definitely bugged me.

So, there you have it folks...the new girl has arrived and will be bunking with her BFF Brooklyn, until she finds her own place.

Bonus shots...
S.I.S. Trichelle (aka Deja Banks) was my first doll. Then who I thought was my Holy Grail came along - FR Colette (aka Taja Reyes-Hill) but she was actually a settle because I really wanted Checking out Colette
(see photo below). Just when I thought I was done, a must have was TJ Heartbreaker (aka Marley Satta). Then, I had to have Jazz Barbie (aka Lyric Scott). And when I thought I could catch my breath, I saw HR Cafe' Barbie (aka Brooklyn Banks). Now, Nichelle Petion is shutting down the shop.  I just won't go there anymore but I'm pretty happy with my collection.

Fashion Royalty Checking out Colette.  She's funkier to me and more my style but I'm o.k. with my purchase of NuFace Colette.
Not my photo click here to see flickr pic

My two favorite girls and one more pic for the road.  This chick just doesn't take a bad photo.  I see now the fun in photographing these girls.

  1. Brooklyn and Nichelle are some of the most gorgeous Barbies ever made in my humble opinion. I'm crossing my fingers for you that you find a body cheaply and quickly. It's not fun, having to buy twice the doll when you buy a Barbie. Might as well buy a Fashion Royalty for the money we spend on Barbie!

    1. Hey Dani! I agree with you, Barbie/Mattel did a great job on their molds and hair. I've started a Nadja/Quiet Storm piggy bank. Over the next month, two or three...I'll be pitchin' in it to score one.

You're so right about buying FR's, it's a better buy. But I must say, Barbie's features are softer to me and that's why I think I lean more towards Barbie. However, DG's molds are very feminine looking and I adore them but I'm bothered by their lack of color that seems to be happening more and more. SMH

  2. Will the Alvin Alley body work for her?

    1. I just compared the AADC Barbie with MOMN. The AADC Barbie is about the same complexion as SIS Chandra. Her complexion is not as deep as MOMN's.

    2. Yep, such a bummer. I really like AADC's articulation but I've seen a lot of people give SIS Chandra her body in a swap. So, I kinda figured that would be the same outcome.

    3. Oops I thought AADC was much darker than she is! I have seen Chandra on that body so I should have known. That was kinda a duh right? ;D

  3. Hey I love here too and total agree about the body thing. I was lucky enough to purchase her for 19.99 at a store that was going out of business in my nieghbor hood. A lot of the people there pasted her up because of her complexion...I know right! Girl I could tell you some stories! Anyway, I love her. i do have a problem with taking pictures of her. With a dark background she will blend. I have to have the lights up high. With a white background the camera wants to focus on the background and her face is out of focus. I have to learn to take better pictures.

I alway wondered if Nichelle and Brookly were the same headsculpt. Are they? The nose looks different in the photo.

I have thought about a DG body and that would cost! I need one for her, Princess of South Africa, and Malibu Christie! Help! Will someone make a low cost very dark body!
    The End!

    1. Hey Ms Leo! $19.99??!! Whoa! Amazing deal. As for the folks passing her by behind her complexion, they're crazy. The bulk of her beauty is that beautifully rich dark chocolate kissed skin tone! I will definitely keep the lighting issues in mind when I get to my stories. I have issues with MOM Daria (aka Nickole Cruz)because she's so blonde, she gets washed out a lot. Makes it difficult to photograph everyone in a scene but maybe I'll get good at it. ;)

Yep, you're correct...Nichelle, Hard Rock Cafe' and Top Model Nikki share the same mold. The noses may look slightly different in the photograph but they're pretty much the same. I applaud Mattel for making them look different enough from one another, they at least got that right.

As for the DG body, that won't work either. The darkest DG body was DG Reese (I think it's the first wave one that you have the head for). Then there's MZ Jungle Fever and MZ Flaunt as the darkest but their complexions are too ashy and not rich enough either. So, really the only exact matches are FR Nadja or Quiet Storm Annik. The new Annik coming out looks like her complexion has gotten a little lighter, so I don't think she's going to work either. I'm waiting for someone on flickr to get her so that I can compare the complexion because that's a lot of dough to spend if it ain't right. :)

Also, FR Jordan appears to be too light.

      Hope this helps....

  4. Model of the Moment Nichelle is truly a gorgeous doll. I purchased her the year she was released. She's included on the cover of my second doll book, where I chose one doll from 5 categories of dolls featured in the book for the cover. MOMN represents the fashion doll chapter.

It's unfortunate that Mattel has not created an articulated body with MOMN's complexion. Maybe you can commission Vanessa (FDAVDT) to airbrush a body to match Nichelle's complexion.

    1. She is gorgeous, I totally agree. I so wish I started collecting back when she was still available on BC, then maybe I wouldn't be griping so much, LOL.

You know, Mattel could take a lesson from MAC Cosmetics. After you use 6 products with MAC, you turn them in and get a free lipstick of your choice. It's all part of their recycling program. I think Mattel should do this and we could all send them these Model Muse bodies with shades difficult to match, they could melt them down and produce and articulate body for those who want them. They can incorporate this option for say "Gold" members where you can maybe pay a monthly/annual fee for this membership card to have this option included.

      Ok, back to Earth...LOL.

I've thought about airbrushing. I think I'd be curious to see how it will last on the plastic over time...

  5. Hey dbg of BDE, That Vanessa airbrush line is very long! LOL!

  6. Congratulations! She's on my Someday List, this Nichelle. On one hand, I think it is great that Mattel has multiple dark complexions. Just wish that they offered multiple complected poser bodies, too.

By the way, Leslie was taking a survey about this subject - Mattel creating multiple poser body in various complexions. You might want to answer that survey - if you missed it - or check to see how Mattel responded ;-D

    1. Thank you so much! I ran right on over and took that survey! Didn't see a response yet from Mattel but it will be interesting to see. :) I missed the posting you did about it originally, so thank you for alerting me to it.

I noticed there are some new AA girls on Barbie Collector but of course, they've all got the MM body. :( I think I'm really going to have to go with Vita Plastic's suggestion and start collecting FR dolls. Maybe now, I will catch them early on and pre-order. :)

    1. LOL, I know that's right! She is stunning! For me, she's a doll I wish I had when I was younger. She evokes such pride in natural beauty.

Oh, and Nichelle told me to tell you, to start using her in your upcoming episodes. ;)

  8. Nichelle is gorgeous! She and TM are two of my favorite dolls that I own. Hard Rock is a grail....one day. : (. I hope you are able to get the FR dolls for great prices.

    1. Hey Georgia Girl, HR was definitely my grail. I'm so glad that she's a perfect match for Fashionistas Artsy or AA Barbie Basics Metallic 2.5 (articulate). Those were reasonably priced bodies, LOL.

I will get Nikki one day soon. I still see her around for a decent price and I know she's a perfect match for S.I.S. Stylin' Kara w/articulate arms & wrists. :)

  9. Hi Tracy! I just put Nichelle on a Nadja body and it looks like a perfect match to me. I can't see a difference. I have seen Nadja on thedollpage.com for reasonable prices. Also, if you look for Twisted Elegance 78 on flicker.com, they have some very nice pics of Nichelle on Nadja's body. Hope that helps.

    1. Thanks Veda, very much! I LOVE Twisted Elegance 78, he's actually a contact. In fact, it's all his fault, LOL. I did have Nichelle on the top of my list but his photos sent me over to purchase her as soon as I found somewhat of a deal. I have seen Nadja on thedollpages too, for an ok price. I can't get her right now but boy oh boy, I'm kicking myself for not purchasing her from IT Direct a few months back, when I could have gotten her brand new for under $100. That will teach me, lol.

Anyways, thank you so much for the info. I will definitely go for a Nadja instead of Annik. :)

  11. She is gorgeous! When she came out I passed on her and many other dolls. I was doing the porcelain dolls at the time and was focused on that business, not Barbies. It is a shame there isn't a darker body option out there. I am still perfecting my airbrush techniques, but sooooo happy I no longer have to worry about that issue. Airbrushing has been around forever. Cars and other vehicles have been airbrushed forever. So, holding up on the plastic is not an issue as long as it is done correctly and properly sealed. If I had the time, I would consider offering bodies. I am sending good thoughts your way in hopes that you find a good match for a great price.

    1. Thanks Vanessa, I think so too. I didn't even think about the fact that cars are airbrushed...duh! Well, when you get some time, I would love to commission you to airbrush a body for Nichelle! :) You did a fabulous job on the BB character that's the exact same complexion as Nichelle.

      We'll talk...
